Tanker Fire Reported Near Oman Coast, UKMTO Issues Warning

MUSCAT, Jun 11: The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has issued a warning after receiving reports of a maritime incident 21 nautical miles northeast of Sohar, Oman.

According to the advisory issued on June 11, 2026, local authorities reported that a tanker experienced a fire in its engine room. No environmental impact has been reported so far.

UKMTO classified the report as suspicious activity and said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

Authorities have urged vessels transiting the area to proceed with caution and immediately report any suspicious activity to UKMTO.

The situation remains under monitoring as maritime and regional authorities continue their assessments.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Muscat stated that " We have learnt of an incident involving a vessel off Shinas port of Oman, earlier today. We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the local authorities for further details."
