LONDON, Oct 26: A tanker transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified projectile on October 23, leaving the vessel disabled, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

In a warning issued on October 26, UKMTO said it had received a verified but delayed report of the incident, which occurred at 0839 UTC on October 23.

The crew was reported safe following the strike. However, the extent of the damage to the vessel and any potential environmental impact had not been established at the time of the warning.

UKMTO did not identify the vessel or specify the origin of the projectile. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the relevant authorities.

The agency advised vessels operating in the area to navigate with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO as investigations continue.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical international shipping route linking the Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the wider Arabian Sea. It is a major passage for global energy shipments, making maritime security in the waterway a concern for commercial shipping and regional authorities.
