LONDON, Oct 1 : A tanker caught fire after being struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to a UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) notice issued Thursday.

UKMTO said it received a third-party report of the incident at 1750 UTC on October 1, 2026. The crew were reported safe, while the extent of the damage and any environmental impact remained unknown at the time of the report.

The maritime security agency advised vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO as authorities investigate the incident.

The notice was issued as UKMTO Incident 147-26 – Attack. The agency did not identify the tanker, the projectile or the party responsible for the incident.
