Tajik-Kuwaiti bilateral ties see steady growth: envoy

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Khusrav Noziri, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the State of Kuwait, said the Tajik- Kuwaiti relations are witnessing steady development, based on mutual respect, political dialogue, trust and mutually beneficial partnership. Noziri made the statement at a ceremony organized by the Embassy of Tajikistan on Tuesday to celebrate the 35th Independence Day of the country. Present at the event were Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Nawaf Al-Ahmad, ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, diplomats and members of the Tajik community. He affirmed that his country looks forward to transforming the strong political understanding between the two nations into broader and more effective practical and economic cooperation.

He stated that celebrating the 35th anniversary of independence is not just a commemoration of a historical event, but a reflection on the 35-year journey of the nation and a look toward the future that Tajikistan views with confidence, determination and hope. He expressed his sincere gratitude to Al-Mashaan for accepting the invitation and attending the celebration, describing her participation as a testament to the deep ties of friendship uniting the two countries and their peoples. Regarding relations with Kuwait, he confirmed that the State of Kuwait holds a special and cherished place in Tajikistan’s foreign policy.

He disclosed that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 31, 1995, and that just a few weeks later, President Emomali Rahmon made his first official visit to Kuwait, the first visit by a Tajik president to an Arab nation. He said President Rahmon’s recent official visit to Kuwait in November 2024, and his meetings with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah are considered a significant milestone in bilateral relations, providing strong momentum for cooperation and opening new horizons for partnership in various fields.

He pointed out that the opening of the Embassy of Kuwait in Dushanbe and the commencement of duties by the first resident Kuwaiti ambassador to Tajikistan are regarded as crucial steps, reflecting the depth of mutual trust and the shared will to foster closer ties between the two peoples. He added, “Our mission today is clear, to transform this strong political understanding into broader and more effective practical and economic cooperation.” He cited promising opportunities for both countries in trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, energy, tourism and other priority sectors. He confirmed that Tajikistan looks forward to hosting the fifth meeting of the Joint Governmental Committee for Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Dushanbe. “This event aims to open new avenues for cooperation, enhance direct engagement between business communities, and translate available opportunities into tangible projects and outcomes that benefit both nations and their peoples,” he explained.

He added that his country remains committed to working with Kuwait, as well as all other friendly nations and international partners, to promote peace, stability, sustainable development and shared prosperity, while reiterating his appreciation for Kuwait and all those who attended the celebration. He praised the cooperation with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and its contributions to supporting development projects in Tajikistan. He described this collaboration as a model of development solidarity and an embodiment of the approach of Kuwait to support development in friendly nations. He also emphasized that relations between nations are built not only on agreements and projects, but also on human and cultural bonds between peoples. He highlighted the deep cultural and spiritual ties between Tajikistan and Kuwait, as well as the historic connections between the Tajik people and the Arab world.
