KUWAIT CITY, May 6:  The Criminal Court sentenced a Syrian to 10 years in prison and fined him KD20,000 for impersonating an employee in the Consumer Protection Department to steal KD15,000 from a citizen’s bank account. The Public Prosecution charged the accused with hacking the website of a government agency and impersonating a public employee.

According to the case files, the accused hacked into a government website and impersonated those responsible for consumer protection using certain techniques. He then corresponded with the citizen via the social networking application WhatsApp, claiming that he represents the Ministry of Commerce and then stole KD15,000 from the victim’s bank account.
