KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: The Court of Appeals sentenced a Syrian businessman involved in a real estate fraud case to 13 years in prison and fined him KD 3 million, reports Al-Qabas daily. Earlier, the Court of First Instance sentenced the accused to 10 years in prison, but the higher court increased the sentence to 13 years.

Case files indicate that several citizens purchased hotel apartments in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. They found out later that the properties they bought are fake, so they filed a lawsuit against the businessman. Attorney Ali Al-Attar of Mashari Al-Osaimi said this is considered one of the most important rulings as it restored the rights of citizens who fell victims to fraudulent real estate transactions.
