Syria Warns Iraq Over Iran-Backed Militia Activity Near Border

DAMASCUS, Aug 1: Syria has warned Iraq over reported movements by Iran-backed militias near the border between the two countries, Al Arabiya reported on Saturday, citing an unnamed Iraqi source.

According to the source, Syrian officials contacted their Iraqi counterparts directly and raised concerns over the activities of the militias near the border area. Damascus reportedly warned that any attack launched from Iraqi territory “would not go unanswered.”

The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over possible cross-border attacks involving Iran-aligned armed groups.

The report follows a recent warning from Jordan, which told Iraq that it would target Iran-backed militias if they carried out attacks against Jordanian territory.
