Supreme Committee revokes citizenship of 464 individuals
Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef presided over the committee meeting

KUWAIT CITY, Mar 6: The Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality has continued its rigorous review of citizenship files, making decisive rulings on cases involving fraud, dual nationality, and other violations. During a meeting chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Youssef, the committee decided to revoke Kuwaiti citizenship from 464 individuals. The cases were categorized as follows:

1. Loss of Citizenship under Article 11:
Kuwaiti nationality was revoked in 12 cases involving dual citizenship, under Article 11 of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law No. 15 of 1959 and its amendments.

2. Withdrawal of Citizenship under Article 21 bis A:
A total of 451 individuals lost their citizenship certificates due to fraud, false statements, or forgery. This also includes cases where citizenship was acquired through dependency on fraudulent claims.

3. Withdrawal of Citizenship under Article 13, Paragraph 4:
One case involved the revocation of citizenship in the higher interest of the country.

According to informed sources, the Nationality Investigations Department has been diligently collecting information for several years. Even though some files have been formally closed, the department has consistently pursued efforts to reveal the truth in cases where irregularities are suspected. The sources highlighted that the committee is dedicated to scrutinizing and auditing all files without exception, including those related to Article 8, forgery, or dual citizenship. They underscored that any file flagged for potential irregularities will undergo a comprehensive review, with appropriate actions being implemented promptly and decisively.

In a related development, investigations into an older case involving an individual who fraudulently added children to his citizenship file have uncovered a broader network of similar frauds. This case has prompted authorities to scrutinize dependent files and verify the legitimacy of children listed in citizenship records. Through DNA testing and further investigations, a significant number of additional forgery cases have been identified. The committee’s actions underscore Kuwait’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its citizenship laws and ensuring that nationality is granted and retained following legal and ethical standards.
