KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: After securing the Super Cup the day before yesterday, Qadsia SC enjoyed multiple benefits from the triumph.
The biggest advantage was the team’s return to the podium after two years. The victory also boosts morale ahead of Qadsia’s crucial Gulf Champions League clash against Iraq’s Zakho next week. A win is essential for the club to maintain hopes of reaching the semifinals. The team also looks forward to competing in the Amir’s Cup after an early exit from the Crown Prince Cup.
Under Tunisian coach Nabil Maaloul, Qadsia has increasingly relied on young talents who have proven themselves, including Abdullah Al-Awadhi, Abdullah Al-Ghniman, Ahmed Boudi, Youssef Al-Haqqan, and Jassim Al-Matar. The squad also welcomed back Abdullah Mataw, who successfully filled the gap left by Algerian Victor Lekhel.
The team expects the return of Mohammad Al-Sharifi, Khalid Sabah, Ahmed Al-Yahya, and Abdulaziz Wadi, completing the squad for the remainder of the season. The Zain Premier League matches will continue to give younger players opportunities to gain experience, particularly as Qadsia trails league leaders Kuwait Club by 11 points with 10 games remaining.
Maaloul expressed his satisfaction with the title, saying: “We deserved this trophy. Qadsia is a great club and does not rely on a single player or coach.”
Captain Bader Al-Mutawa highlighted the team’s depth, saying, “Qadsia’s future is bright thanks to our young talents. This title belongs to the entire squad, not just me.” He also praised the fans, noting that their support in every match is vital for winning trophies.
Off the field, Qadsia announced legal action against Lekhel after his absence from training. Lekhel had received an offer from Al-Riyadh Club, but Qadsia’s request for a swap involving foreign player Victor failed after the local transfer window closed on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Egyptian forward Mahmoud Kahraba announced he had terminated his contract with Qadsia, citing “non-payment of financial dues”. He confirmed that lawyers will pursue his case to reclaim his rights.
