KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: Sulaibikhat’s first basketball team will compete in the 38th Arab Basketball Championship for Clubs, hosted by Lebanese club Al-Hikma in Beirut, after being drawn in Group B alongside Qatar’s Al-Arabi, Lebanese clubs Hoops and Beirut, Yemen’s Shaab Hadramout and Syria’s Homs Al-Fida.

Group A comprises Al-Hikma and Centralia of Lebanon, Syria’s Ahli Aleppo, Oman’s Al-Seeb, Qatar’s Al-Rayyan, and Bahrain’s Manama.

The championship begins this Friday and runs until October 20. Sulaibikhat’s delegation will travel to Beirut tomorrow in preparation for the tournament. The team will open its campaign against Shaab Hadramout on Friday, followed by a meeting with Beirut on Sunday. It will then face Homs Al-Fida the following day before taking on Al-Arabi of Qatar on October 14. Sulaibikhat will conclude the group stage against Hoops on October 16.

Sulaibikhat delegation head and team manager Ayman Al-Anzi said the team is ready for the tournament, adding that the “Reds” aim to deliver strong performances and challenge for the top positions.

Al-Anzi said Group B appears well balanced, with the teams closely matched and no significant differences in quality. This, he added, gives Sulaibikhat extra motivation to perform at its best and seek a place in the second round.

He explained that the team completed its preparations by playing several friendly matches against Al-Sahel and Kazma, in addition to a game against the US Army team. These matches helped improve the players’ readiness and prepare them adequately for the start of the competition.
