CAIRO, Oct 8: Egyptian authorities have arrested a Sudanese co-pilot at Cairo International Airport after allegedly finding crystal methamphetamine, known as “ice,” and drug-use paraphernalia in his possession while he was preparing to travel to Port Sudan.

According to Egyptian media reports, airport security officers became suspicious of the man as he completed travel procedures among passengers on a flight operated by the Sudanese airline for which he works. He was reportedly wearing his airline uniform and displaying his work identification despite travelling as a passenger.

Authorities found about one gram of crystal methamphetamine along with items allegedly used for consuming drugs, according to Egyptian reports.

During questioning, the co-pilot reportedly said the substance was intended for personal use. He also allegedly told investigators that he had worn his uniform and work identification to make it easier to pass through airport security without being searched.

The seized items were confiscated and a case was referred to the Public Prosecution. The East Cairo Public Prosecution ordered the co-pilot to be detained for four days pending investigation and directed that he undergo a forensic drug test.
