KUWAIT CITY, July 4: The state budget report for fiscal year 2026/2027 revealed that the government continues to provide subsidies for basic commodities to help citizens cope with the rising cost of living. A budget of KD244.713 million was allocated for the cost-of-living reduction item, in addition to continuing to provide subsidized food commodities and related services. The report clarified that the allocated amount falls under the expenditures of ministries and government agencies, specifically within the category of “Reducing the Cost of Living,” which includes subsidies provided by government entities to beneficiaries to implement projects according to specific conditions. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is responsible for providing food supply services, which include ensuring the availability of basic and subsidized commodities for citizens, as well as maintaining commodity reserves in accordance with the state’s strategy. According to the ministry’s website, it will provide 116 subsidized and discounted food commodities this year. The ministry offers 11 food supply services, most notably issuing new ration cards to citizens, modifying ration card data, and adding or removing beneficiaries from the supply card.
