Strong winds to reduce visibility, temperatures to drop across Kuwait
Kuwait Meteorological Department reports rainfall tapering off today, but rain expected again midweek.

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: The Acting Director of the Meteorological Department, Dharar Al-Ali, said on Sunday that the likelihood of rainfall will gradually decrease after noon, while active winds are expected to stir up dust and reduce horizontal visibility across parts of the country, with rain chances set to return on Wednesday and Thursday.

Al-Ali told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Kuwait has been affected since Saturday evening by an increase in low- and medium-level clouds, interspersed with cumulonimbus formations, bringing scattered rainfall—at times thundery—to several areas. Rainfall amounts ranged from light to moderate and were heavy in some northern regions.

He said rainfall totals recorded included 35 millimeters in Al-Abdali, 14 mm in Al-Sabriya, and 7 mm at Kuwait International Airport.

The weather conditions, he explained, were the result of an extension of a surface low-pressure system coinciding with a deep upper-atmospheric low, which has gradually retreated since Sunday morning. This has allowed a high-pressure system accompanied by a cold air mass to advance over the country.

Al-Ali noted that the cold air mass will lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures, along with active northwesterly winds that may occasionally exceed 60 kilometers per hour. These winds are expected to raise dust, reduce horizontal visibility—particularly in open areas—and cause sea waves to exceed six feet.

He added that maximum temperatures on Sunday will range between 14 and 17 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to be between 6 and 9 degrees Celsius.
