KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has stepped up inspection campaigns ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, resulting in the closure of 48 non-compliant scrap yards in South Amghara and the detection of violations in central markets, including butcher shops, poultry stores, date shops, and Ramadan supply outlets.
Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of the Commercial Control Department, confirmed that the campaigns follow directives from Minister Osama Boodai and aim to ensure the availability of essential goods, control prices and weights, and protect consumers during the festive season.
Al-Ansari explained that emergency teams had given scrap yards a grace period to rectify violations, but many failed to comply, prompting immediate closures. In parallel inspections of markets, officials identified issues such as failure to display prices, underweight products, and other regulatory breaches.
All violations were addressed promptly under existing laws, with Al-Ansari stressing that the Ministry will maintain strict oversight throughout Ramadan. Teams are coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure market compliance, with any future violations met with swift and firm action.
