WASHINGTON, Aug. 4: The southern route through the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial vessels despite what the US military described as continued Iranian aggression, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said US forces have assisted more than 1,000 commercial vessels in safely transiting the strategic waterway over the past three months.

“The southern route through the Strait of Hormuz remains free and open for all commercial vessels seeking to transit the international waterway,” CENTCOM said, adding that commercial transits are continuing.

The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region following Iranian threats affecting shipping activity in one of the world’s most important energy routes.
