Lieutenant General Thabet Mohammad Al-Muhanna

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 20: With imposing features that conveyed the rigor of the battlefield, and something even more profound – the kindness of a man whom life had taught that true strength requires resilience in times of adversity and courage in the face of confrontation.

From the moment he entered the military field, a calm and reassuring smile graced his face, yet it never concealed his traits of leadership. His eyes reflected the vigilance of a soldier accustomed to observing every detail, while his voice carried the steadfastness of one who had spent years understanding that words carry weight, decisions carry responsibility, and duty has its sanctity. He embodied two beautiful opposites: firmness when firmness is a duty and gentleness when gentleness is a virtue. He knew when to be resolute and when to be a father, a brother and a friend. His imposing presence was never a barrier between him and the people.

It was rather a presence imbued with respect and reassurance, making you feel that you were in the presence of a strong man while, at the same time, standing before a compassionate heart. For him, years of service are not merely a passage of time spent moving through various ranks and positions, but a school that shaped his character and instilled in him discipline, precision and commitment. He believed that a true soldier begins by disciplining himself before demanding discipline from others.

As for the homeland, it was not a slogan to be uttered on special occasions, but a meaning he lived every day -- a quiet patriotism that sought no applause, a loyalty that expected no reward, and a devotion to the land whose fl ag he carried and which he served for years. He believed that serving the homeland is an honor, that safeguarding its security is a sacred trust, and that the most valuable legacy a soldier leaves behind is not the number of positions he held, but a clean record, a good reputation and a lasting impact on others.

When his years of service in the Ministry of Interior ended in 2009, his punctuality, decisiveness, loyalty and commanding presence remained undiminished, because while a rank may be retired, a leader’s character knows no retirement. He is a man who, upon entering a gathering, needs little introduction. Something in his posture speaks of a life lived in responsibility, something in his composure speaks of having experienced difficult situations, and something in his smile confirms that those years, however harsh, could not rob him of his humanity.

A leader forged by circumstances before ranks, and refined by responsibility before positions bestowed their prestige upon him. His features bear the resolve of a soldier, his smile the kindness of a father, his stature the dignity of a man, and in his heart a homeland he served until his last day in the field -- a homeland he carried with him even after his departure. He is retired Lieutenant General Thabet Mohammad Al-Muhanna, a man whom Kuwait knows and who knows Kuwait, so much so that you almost feel the country has been ingrained in him long before his ancestors settled here.

This man’s story is written over four decades of dedication, principled stances, and significant events that bore witness to his career in the security field and his service to the nation. The legacy of ‘Abu Mohammad’ remains, imbued with experience, leadership qualities, and a journey that can serve as a guiding light for young people looking for role models and for every ambitious individual striving for excellence.

During his tenure in various positions in the Ministry of Interior, Al-Muhanna witnessed pivotal moments in the history of the country, pursuing a career marked by significant contributions and achievements that culminated in his retirement with the rank of lieutenant general. In 2014, he was appointed Governor of the Capital Governorate, bringing with him years of experience and the spirit of a hands-on leader. He viewed the capital as the face of Kuwait and its commercial and historical heart. During this period, he attended numerous national and social events, and remained actively involved in the affairs of the governorate and its facilities, drawing upon his extensive security and administrative expertise.

Thus, Thabet Mohammad Al-Muhanna’s journey was not just a progression through ranks and positions, but the story of a man who remained steadfast in one principle: “Serving Kuwait is a responsibility that does not end with the end of the position, and a man’s impact endures through the legacy and stances he leaves in the memory of the people and the nation.”
