Stop Dumping Construction Waste Outside Your Homes

KUWAIT CITY, July 20: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) on Monday urged the public to refrain from dumping or leaving demolition and construction waste on roads, sidewalks or in front of homes, stressing the need to transport such materials to designated sites as an environmental, legal and social responsibility. Shaikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the EPA, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the authority is closely monitoring the environmental impacts of ongoing clearance works carried out in parallel with the Kuwait Municipality’s campaign “Kuwait is more beautiful without encroachments” in various governorates. Al-Ibrahim noted that random disposal of demolition and removal waste constitutes a clear violation of Article (33) of the Environmental Protection Law, which states that “it is prohibited to throw garbage or waste of any kind except in containers or places designated for that.”

She added that such waste does not only distorts the civilized appearance of residential areas, but can obstruct traffic, endanger road users and cause negative environmental effects, making broad community cooperation essential to curb these practices. She pointed out that the Environmental Protection Law prescribes penalties for violators, with fines for breaches of the above-mentioned article reaching up to 500 Kuwaiti dinars, in addition to obliging offenders to remove the effects of the violation, rectify the situation and bear all related costs and consequences in accordance with established procedures.

Al-Ibrahim called on property owners and contractors conducting removal and construction works to comply with approved environmental requirements and ensure that waste is transported to designated disposal sites. She stressed the importance of cooperation and adherence to proper practices to preserve the environment and maintain the civilized appearance of residential neighborhoods. She affirmed that environmental protection is a shared responsibility between government authorities and the wider community, and that respecting environmental regulations and laws helps maintain cleanliness across areas and enhances quality of life in the State of Kuwait. (KUNA)
