KUWAIT CITY, Apr 16: A routine shopping trip in Hawally turned into a distressing ordeal for an Egyptian expatriate after his wallet (containing KD 310 ) mysteriously disappeared on February 21, 2026. What seemed at first like an innocent mishap soon took a darker turn when the man realized the wallet had likely been stolen, prompting him to report the incident to authorities.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Departments in Hawally and Al-Shaab quickly took up the case, piecing together clues from the scene and surveillance footage. Their persistence paid off when evidence led them to an Arab suspect, whose movements had raised quiet suspicion among investigators.
When confronted and questioned, the suspect’s story began to crumble. Under interrogation, he confessed to taking the wallet and, driven by mounting family financial pressure, had transferred the entire amount to a compatriot abroad within hours of the theft.
While the culprit has been referred to the competent authorities for prosecution, police confirmed that the stolen money remains unrecovered, having already been moved out of Kuwait. Officials said they continue to follow up on the case to determine if any portion of the funds can be traced and returned.
