A 2,500-year-old golden helmet, one of Romania’s most valuable artefacts, has been recovered more than a year after being stolen from the Drents Museum. The Coțofenești helmet, along with two ancient gold bracelets, was returned and placed under tight security, while a third bracelet remains missing.

The items were stolen during a raid by an armed gang, sparking outrage in Romania and raising concerns over the safety of priceless artefacts on international loan. The treasures had been part of an exhibition showcasing ancient Dacian civilisation.

Authorities said the artefacts were handed over following negotiations involving suspects, who are due to stand trial later this month. Investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining missing bracelet.
