Stay away from sensitive sites, campers told

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 27: The Interior Ministry is closely coordinating with Kuwait Municipality to launch an awareness campaign for owners of licensed spring camp sites through SMS, says Director of Public Relations and Security Media Department Brigadier Adel Ahmad Al-Hashash.

In a press statement, Al-Hashash explained the mechanism to be followed during the campaign, saying messages will be sent to 2,160 mobile phones that belong to owners of spring camp sites licensed by the Municipality. He said this number is directly proportional to the number of licenses issued by the Municipality, indicating the campaign aims to raise the campers’ awareness on safety and security regulations in camping sites.

He added that spring camping is a tradition among Kuwaitis, hence, the need for all campers to fully abide by the regulations such as staying away from military areas, oil installations, high-voltage posts and public roads. In an unrelated development, officers from the Drug Control General Department arrested a Bedoun in Saad Al-Abdullah area in possession of 6000 narcotic pills and KD 900 cash believed to be proceeds from drugs, and two weapons, says Al-Seyassah.

Security sources said the suspect was apprehended in a hot chase after a transaction with an undercover agent. Apparently, the department received information about his illicit activities and formed a team fo detectives to bring him to book. He was placed under surveillance for a period, and an undercover officer approached him to purchase 500 narcotic pills for KD 900. He sensed the presence of security operatives and tried to escape after the deal, but he was arrested in a chase.
