KUWAIT CITY, Nov 19: Kuwait is waiting for the extradition of former Director-General of the of the Public Institute for Social Security Fahd Al-Raja’an from Britain to appear before the Kuwaiti judiciary to answers charges of misappropriation of public funds, reports Al-Rai daily.

In this regard, a British legal source in the UK revealed a British judge during a hearing on Nov 6, 2017, which was attended by Al-Raja’an, ruled there is no legal barrier to prevent his extradition to Kuwait to appear before the Kuwaiti judiciary.

The sources said the British Foreign Secretary is expected to approve the request from Kuwait to extradite Al-Raja’an. The same sources said the Foreign Secretary has two months to approve the request. It has also been reported the approval is just a formality and must be carried out through procedural and diplomatic channels.

The sources explained the British government has confirmed the request for the extradition of Al-Raja’an corresponds to legal and human rights and the judge in his ruling did not mention any health or physical grounds to prevent his extradition. The sources pointed out, the British ruling is based on the merits of the memorandum of cooperation signed between Kuwait and the United Kingdom.
