KUWAIT CITY, Dec 11, (Agencies): Board member of Public Authority for Sports and member of the organizing committee for the opening ceremony of Sheikh Jaber International Stadium Khaled Al-Rowdhan disclosed that the festival scheduled to take place on Dec 18 was prearranged and funded by HH the Amir, noting the Amir receives report regarding its preparations on a daily basis.

In a press statement, Al-Rowdhan said HH the Amir gave keen attention to the safety of the stadium and funded the signing of contract with a major company to run the stadium. He stressed that other parties involved, including the organizing committee of the event, are only executing specific and clear instructions from HH the Amir to bring joy to the people of Kuwait in hosting the event.

He indicated the festival will be broadcast live through various global television channels, and the responsibility was given to an international producer who supervises the European cup championships, while an international referee from UAE will oversee the match between Kuwait’s all-stars and the international team.

He pointed out that, Kuwait’s all-stars team was formed with players from the local teams and 32 thousand football fans voted for the players they want to see playing against the international stars. So far, more than 50 percent of the tickets have been booked.

Concerning preparations, Al-Rowdhan pointed out that about 150 buses have been designated to transport football fans directly from the car parking area to the gates of the stadium, and the organizers have facilitated comfort of the spectators attending the match, besides a comprehensive security plan to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Meanwhile, Board of the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) has decided to postpone the 10th round of the Kuwaiti Premier League as it coincides with the opening of the Jaber Stadium on Dec 18.

KFA Secretary General Sahoo Al-Sahoo said that the decision was meant to offer all rival teams equal opportunities, especially those whose players will take part with the Kuwaiti team in the fund game to be held as part of the inauguration.

Al-Sahoo welcomed all efforts to guarantee success for the Jaber Stadium inauguration, to be generously patronized by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He referred to the Stadium as a long-awaited dream for all Kuwaitis, especially footballers and fans.

The KFA Secretary General also expressed hope that the inauguration of the Stadium would be a step toward attaining official endorsement from continental and international specialized committees so that it can host important games with huge spectators.

As arrangements were being made over the past few months for the opening of the Stadium, specialized committees from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the FIFA were invited to check how much the Stadium went in line with the relevant standards and conditions, he said.

He noted that a long path was already made in this regard but FIFA decision on Oct 16 to suspend KFA caused a halt and did not allow obtaining an official endorsement.

Al-Sahoo hoped that KFA would have a chance to resume these crucial steps as soon as possible, and that the historical opening of Jaber Stadium would help realize the aspired goal.

The opening includes an operetta with the participation of major Arab and Gulf singers, and a fun football much to feature top world and Kuwaiti footballers.
