Sports body mandates Dhabiyeh to probe violations

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 2: In response to violations said to have been committed within the Public Authority for Sports, Mohammed Al-Aiban, the Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, has initiated the formation of an investigation committee, reports Al-Jarida daily. This committee will be headed by Counselor Dr. Ali Dhabiyeh from the Fatwa and Legislation Department, with Issam Jaafar serving as vice-president. Other members include Ahmed Al-Ammar and Nasser Al-Ajmi, while Muhammad Bouresli will act as the Rapporteur. In order to form the committee, Al- Aiban had requested that the “Fatwa and Legislation” nominate two members, one of whom will assume the role of committee head. Commencing its operations in the upcoming week, the committee’s primary focus will encompass a comprehensive assessment of violations and the examination of suspicious activities within the General Sports Authority.

The committee has been assigned a range of specific tasks, including:

■ Conducting a comprehensive review and audit of all administrative, financial, and operational activities undertaken by the Authority, while also scrutinizing detected violations.

■ Delving into a variety of files, which include investment, the utilization of state lands, construction, maintenance, and facilities management, partial professionalism, and instances of sports-related breaks.

■ Investigating the history of previous hosting events, training camps, and external engagements involving sports organizations.

■ Probing into instances of misconduct regarding subsidies and financial support granted to sports organizations. Notably, this inquiry will encompass subsidies announced post the enactment of Sports Law No. 87 of 2017, and its corresponding amendment, No. 43. The funds disbursed to these entities since 2018 are estimated to amount to 25 million dinars until the discontinuation of fi- nancial support and

■ Reviewing and assessing requests for the allocation of stateowned lands to these sports organizations.

The investigation committee is anticipated to play a pivotal role in identifying any irregularities and ensuring the appropriate legal actions are taken.
