MADRID, Mar 30: Spain has closed its airspace to American military aircraft involved in operations against Iran, marking a significant escalation in its position amid growing regional tensions.
Defence Minister Margarita Robles confirmed the decision on Monday, stating that Spain does not authorize the use of its airspace or jointly operated military bases for actions related to the conflict in Iran.
The move goes beyond Madrid’s previous restrictions on the use of its military facilities for such operations.
Spanish daily El País first reported the development, citing military sources.
Officials in Madrid reiterated that Spain will not permit its territory or airspace to be used in connection with the ongoing war involving Iran.
