Souyad completes Al-Arabi’s foreign player lineup

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 20: Al-Arabi has completed its foreign player lineup with the signing of Algerian center-back Badr Eddine Souyad.

The 31-year-old joins a foreign contingent that includes Anayo Iwuala of Nigeria, Palestine’s Zaid Qanbar, Ethiopia’s Kenan Malinco, and Dutch-Moroccan forward Walid Ould Cheikh.

Al-Arabi recently terminated the contracts of Senegalese forward Johar Rasoul and Brazilian Leonardo Sheldon.

Souyad has previously played for several Algerian clubs, including MC Oujda, CR Belouizdad, JS Kabylie, Amal Arbaa and MC Alger. He is expected to join the team in the coming days, while Ould Cheikh began training with Al-Arabi two days ago.

The squad changes follow Al-Arabi’s slow start to the Zain Premier League under Croatian coach Goran Sablic. The Green sit 10th with two points after draws against Kuwait Club (0-0) and Sulaibikhat (3-3), followed by a 2-1 defeat to Al-Jahra.

Meanwhile, Al-Arabi midfielder Jomaa Abboud has been called up by Syria for preparatory camps and friendly matches ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

The 27-year-old received the call-up from Syria coach José Lana after international defender Omar Al-Midani suffered an injury during the national team’s recent training sessions.
