KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: The Chargé d’Affaires at the South Korean Embassy in Kuwait, Kim Hye Jin, affirmed that the “Korean Folk Food Festival” has grown into one of the most significant cultural bridges linking Kuwait and South Korea. Now in its ninth edition, the festival continues to strengthen bilateral ties by showcasing the richness of Korean cuisine and its growing popularity among Kuwait’s citizens and expatriates.

Kim emphasized that food has become a meaningful medium of cultural exchange between the two countries. “The festival is a major event that connects Korea and Kuwait through food. We feel increasingly close to Kuwait because we see how much Kuwaitis appreciate Korean cuisine,” she said.

She highlighted the remarkable rise in the number of Korean restaurants across Kuwait, noting that there are currently around six establishments offering authentic Korean dishes. Their growing popularity, she added, reflects a strong demand among both citizens and residents for Korean culinary experiences.

Kim also touched on the historic relationship between the two nations, recalling Korea’s support during Kuwait’s most challenging periods, including the time of the Iraqi invasion. She stressed that the friendship between Kuwait and Korea is rooted in mutual respect and affection: “Kuwaitis love Korean culture, and Koreans love Kuwaiti culture.”

The Korean diplomat further noted the similarities between the culinary traditions of both countries, particularly when it comes to spicy dishes—an element that she believes helps enhance the cultural bond shared by Koreans and Kuwaitis.
