KUWAIT CITY, Jan 18 (KUNA): South Korea edged past Oman 29–24 in a closely contested Asian Handball Championship match on Sunday, with talisman Kim Taekwan delivering a standout performance to guide his side to victory.
Oman fought hard to overturn the deficit, but South Korea’s experience proved decisive as Kim Taekwan, who was named man of the match, led his team to a hard-earned win.
Earlier in the day, Iraq defeated Jordan 26–21 in the 22nd Asian Handball Championship, currently being hosted by Kuwait and running until January 29.
The Group B encounter, which opened the fourth day of competition, was played at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. Iraq secured its second consecutive victory after taking a 14–11 lead into halftime and maintaining control in the second half.
Group B also features Bahrain and China. Iraq had previously beaten China, while Jordan suffered its second straight loss, following an earlier defeat to Bahrain.
The championship action continues with further Group B fixtures, including South Korea taking on Oman and China facing Bahrain.
