TUNIS, June 17: (KUNA): Kuwaiti Paralympic champion Faisal Suroor secured the gold medal in the discus throw on the opening day of the Tunis Grand Prix Athletics Championships, which concluded today.

Nasser Al-Ajmi, head of the Kuwaiti delegation and chairman of the Paralympic Athletics Committee, praised Suroor’s outstanding performance, attributing the achievement to the hard work of both the athlete and the technical team, led by coach Ahmed Al-Harbi.

Al-Ajmi also revealed that Suroor broke the Asian record in the discus throw—surpassing the previous mark, which he had set himself—underscoring the athlete’s continued excellence and dominance in the event.

“This victory is the result of dedication and determination. Faisal and his fellow athletes are committed to making Kuwait proud and raising the national flag high at international competitions,” Al-Ajmi said.

He affirmed that the Paralympic athletics team entered the championship fully prepared, with all players in excellent technical and physical condition after undergoing rigorous training in recent weeks. Al-Ajmi expressed full confidence in the team’s ability to represent Kuwait honorably.

The Kuwaiti team is competing in the championship with a strong lineup of nine athletes: Faisal Suroor, Dhari Butti, Abdullah Al-Saif, Abdullah Al-Enezi, Nasser Faraj, Khaled Al-Rashidi, Abdullah Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Azmi, and Abdullah Al-Adheena.
