Social Affairs Ministry expands field inspections of Cooperatives
Kuwait Ministry of Social Affairs expands field inspections of Cooperatives to ensure compliance with regulations.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: The Ministry of Social Affairs has expanded its field inspections of cooperative societies across Kuwait, aiming to include the majority of the existing cooperatives in the country. This initiative, led by the Financial, Administrative, and Cooperative Affairs Sector, aims to ensure that these societies comply with the Cooperatives Law and its amendments, as well as all relevant ministerial administrative decisions governing cooperative work.

Under direct instructions from the Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, the Ministry has made it clear that strict measures will be taken in the event of any suspected violations or misuse of authority by cooperative boards. If the oversight teams identify potential transgressions that could jeopardize shareholders' funds or harm the interests of the cooperatives, immediate investigation and review committees will be formed.

Dr. Al-Huwailah emphasized the importance of protecting the multi-billion-dollar cooperative sector, which plays a vital role in ensuring the country's food security. She underscored that the ultimate goal of cooperative work is to provide high-quality goods at cooperative prices, easing the financial burden on both Kuwaiti citizens and residents.

In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that the supervisory teams will operate in parallel with the investigation committees. These committees are tasked with addressing financial and administrative concerns raised by auditors or complaints submitted by cooperative shareholders. The investigations will focus on potential violations, including those related to economic mismanagement and administrative misconduct.

Dr. Al-Huwailah clarified that inspections and reviews will not be restricted to cooperatives with existing issues or complaints. Instead, the Ministry’s efforts will be ongoing throughout the year, ensuring that all cooperatives adhere to the necessary standards and regulations.

The Ministry has reiterated its firm commitment to combating any form of corruption within cooperative societies. It emphasized that it will take all necessary actions to address violations and safeguard the financial stability and solvency of the cooperatives. There will be zero tolerance for any actions that could undermine the integrity of these vital institutions.
