Soaring Food Prices Put Pressure on Iranian Households as Iranian Regime's Media Mock Trump

TEHRAN, Aug 3: Iranian households are facing mounting economic pressure as food prices continue to soar, while hardline newspapers have celebrated US President Donald Trump's decision to cancel planned military strikes on Iranian infrastructure.

According to the moderate Iranian news outlet Rouydad24, the cost of essential food items has risen sharply over the past year, further straining family budgets. Chicken prices have increased by around 190 percent compared with the same period last year, while pasteurized milk has surged 150 percent and yogurt about 130 percent.

Cooking oil has recorded some of the steepest increases, with liquid oil prices climbing more than 340 percent and solid cooking oil nearly 400 percent year-on-year.

The outlet said the sharp rise in food costs has forced many families to make painful adjustments to their diets. Many households reportedly eliminated red meat first, then reduced consumption of chicken and dairy products. Now, even basic staples such as eggs, cooking oil and bread are becoming increasingly difficult to afford.

Meanwhile, Iran's hardline newspapers reacted triumphantly after President Donald Trump announced he had called off planned attacks on Iranian infrastructure.

The front page of the hardline newspaper Hamshahri depicted a car gear stick with Trump's silhouette replacing the reverse gear under the headline, "Trump's Reverse Gear," suggesting the US president had backed down from confrontation.

Another hardline daily, Kayhan, claimed Iran's strength had forced the policy reversal, declaring that "Iran's power delivered the answer," while asserting that Trump had withdrawn his threats.

Trump said he abandoned the planned strikes following renewed diplomatic efforts and expressed optimism that agreements on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear negotiations with Iran could soon be reached.
