Live snake sparks commotion on AirAsia flight for the second time.

BANGKOK, Jan 17: Passengers aboard an AirAsia flight from Bangkok to Phuket experienced a moment of chaos when a live snake was discovered in an overhead bin, according to an official statement from AirAsia Thailand. The incident occurred on Flight FD3015, which departed Don Mueang International Airport on January 13.

This marks the second time a snake has been found on an AirAsia plane, the first incident taking place in February 2022 on a domestic flight in Malaysia. During that incident, a spotted python disrupted the journey from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah, resulting in the plane being rerouted to Kuching International Airport in Sarawak.

While such occurrences are deemed rare, the airline assured passengers that its crew is trained to handle such situations. In the recent incident, a passenger alerted flight attendants to the snake in the overhead luggage compartment before landing in Phuket. The crew promptly relocated passengers as a precautionary measure.

Phol Poompuang, head of corporate safety at AirAsia Thailand, emphasized that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remained the top priority. Following landing, the aircraft underwent thorough inspection and cleaning by engineering and safety teams.

Despite the unsettling discovery, the company stated that at no point were passengers or crew in any danger. Standard protocols, including a deep clean and fumigation, were implemented before the aircraft resumed operations.

Details about the snake’s species or its fate after the landing were not provided in the official statement. However, a video circulating on TikTok, reportedly filmed by a passenger, captured a male flight attendant attempting to capture the snake with a plastic bottle. The incident drew attention from concerned passengers, with some recording the scene on their phones. Ground security staff later investigated the area of the cabin where the snake was apprehended.
