CANBERRA, Nov 12, (Xinhua): A Qantas flight from South Australia (SA) to the national capital of Canberra was forced to turn around and make an emergency landing shortly after take-off on Wednesday morning due to smoke in the cabin.
Flight QF1972 turned around and landed back at Adelaide Airport shortly after taking off at 6:10 am local time on Wednesday following a declaration from pilots requesting priority landing when crew noticed smoke in the cabin, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
A spokesperson for Qantas said that the E190 aircraft landed safely back in Adelaide and would be examined by engineers before returning to service. "Our pilots are highly trained to handle situations like this and the aircraft landed safely after the appropriate procedures were conducted," the spokesperson said, adding that all passengers who were on board were placed on an alternative flight that departed from Adelaide at around 8:30 am local time.
