LIMA, Aug 2: At least 13 people were killed on Saturday after a small aircraft crashed into farmland near the city of Nazca in Peru’s southern Ica region, local broadcaster RPP News reported.
Preliminary information indicated that the victims included 11 tourists along with the pilot and co-pilot.
The aircraft crashed approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from Nazca, an area known worldwide for its ancient Nazca Lines and popular with sightseeing flights.
Emergency teams and local authorities were deployed to the crash site, while an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
Officials have not yet released further details about the identities of the victims or the circumstances that led to the crash.
