Skydiving over Giza – Kuwaiti team to take part in global events

CAIRO, Egypt, Nov 4 : Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Police Sports Federation, Major General Walid Al-Saleh, said on Wednesday that the union seeks to establish a professional team for skydiving to participate in various local and international festivals and competitions. This came in a statement made by Major General Al- Saleh, who also holds the position of Director General of the General Administration of Kuwait Airport Security, to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the sidelines of the activities of the Fourth International Parachute Jumping Festival organized by the Egyptian Military Parachute and Air Sports Federation in the historical pyramids area, with the participation of 120 jumpers from 19 countries including Kuwait.

He explained that the Police Union received an invitation from the Egyptian Parachute Union to participate in the fourth festival, indicating that the Union was keen to participate and a team was formed representing all sectors of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior. In this regard, he praised the support provided by the senior leadership of the Ministry of Interior, led by Interior Minister Sheikh Thamer Ali Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and Undersecretary of the Ministry Lieutenant-General Sheikh Faisal Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah for the participation of the Kuwaiti national team in this event. He pointed out that the Police Sports Federation set several basic requirements for selecting the members of the Interior Ministry’s free-jumping team, explaining that all of them passed more than 300 jumps. He stressed that the number of team members will be increased during the coming period to participate in various local and international events, especially since the Ministry of Interior includes a large and distinguished group of paratroopers.

Major General Al-Saleh praised the good organization of the festival’s activities, especially the selection of the jumping site in the pyramids area, which is considered one of the important archaeological and historical areas in Egypt. In turn, a member of the Kuwaiti Police Union, Colonel Abdullah Al-Hamar, said in a similar statement to KUNA that the competition is the first for the Police Union team after its formation, stressing that the team members are at a high level of training. He explained that the number of the team participating in the festival is six individuals from various departments of the Ministry of Interior, whether the Coast Guard, Public Security or Special Forces, indicating that the team is ready to participate in all tournaments in the future. For his part, the Supervisor of the Interior Ministry’s free-jumping team, Colonel Bahri Hassan Khaja, expressed in a statement to KUNA his happiness to participate in the International Parachute Festival, stressing that participation in the festival was “very effective” and that the Kuwait parachute team presented great levels during its activities.
