AMMAN, Oct 23: Six people were killed and 28 injured when gunmen opened fire during a funeral at Hamoud Church in Jordan’s Karak governorate on Friday, according to the country’s Public Security Directorate.

The death toll was initially reported as seven by state-owned Al-Mamlaka television, but authorities later confirmed six fatalities and 28 injuries. Reuters and the Associated Press also reported the attack, although early casualty figures differed.

Jordan’s state news agency, Petra, reported that security authorities were following up on the shooting and urged the public not to circulate unverified information.

Jordan’s official news agency, Petra, subsequently reported that Amman Prosecutor General Hassan Al-Abdallat imposed a publication ban covering news, information, photographs and videos related to the case and its investigation. The order also covers social media, with government media under the Ministry of Government Communication exempted.
