Six Daily Juvenile Crimes in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: The Public Prosecution deals with 187 cases filed against juveniles per month – an average of six crimes per day, reports Al-Qabas daily. The prosecution revealed that the number of such cases in the country reached 67,480 in the last 30 years and the number of defendants totaled 693,107. This was stated in a special digital bulletin issued by the prosecution on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its establishment.

Regarding a video clip that circulated on some social networking sites, showing a fight and run-over incident in front of a school, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the relevant security authorities arrested all those involved. They were referred to the competent authorities to take legal action against them.

Analysis of these figures indicates that 2,250 juvenile cases are registered in the country annually, at a rate of about 187 cases per month or more; recording six juvenile cases daily over the past three decades. The bulletin stated that the Juvenile Prosecution, established as per Juvenile Law No. 3 of 1983 followed by Attorney General Resolution No. 3 of 1983 regarding the establishment of the Juvenile Prosecution and determining its powers to conduct investigation and prosecution in the cases of delinquent children, it continues performing its duties in accordance with the developments of Juvenile Law No. 111 of 2015.
