KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: As cooler months approach, the season of colds, flu, and seasonal illnesses arrives. Health experts say that while no method can fully guarantee protection, science-backed habits can strengthen the immune system and help the body fight infections.

Medical specialists recommend six key strategies to boost immunity during fall and winter:

1. Prioritize nighttime sleep: Sleep is one of the most effective tools for immune health. Adults should aim for 7 to 9 hours per night. Going to bed consistently, keeping bedrooms cool and dark, and turning off screens at least 30 minutes before sleeping can make a significant difference. Even one night of poor sleep can reduce infection-fighting cells in the body.

2. Stay active, even in small ways: Movement improves circulation, lowers stress, and helps immune cells function efficiently. Those feeling sluggish can start small with indoor walking, light yoga or stretching, household chores, or using stairs instead of elevators. Consistency, even in short bursts, supports resilience.

3. Take small daily breaks: Stress weakens the immune system over time by increasing cortisol levels. Simple daily activities such as calling a friend, stepping outside for fresh air, doodling, or playing with pets can provide needed mental and physical resets.
