Shrapnel from an intercepted missile kills two in the UAE

ABU DHABI, (AP) March 26: Two people were killed and three others injured on Thursday after debris from an intercepted missile fell in the UAE capital, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Sweihan Street in Abu Dhabi following the successful interception of a missile by the United Arab Emirates Air Defence Forces. Several vehicles were also damaged as debris fell in a populated area.

Local authorities confirmed that emergency teams responded immediately, while investigations are underway to identify the victims and determine further details of the incident. Residents have been urged to rely only on official sources and avoid spreading unverified information.

The latest incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and a series of reported attacks linked to the ongoing conflict, which the UAE has previously described as part of broader “Iranian aggression.”

Earlier this week, a civilian contractor working with the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces was killed during a routine mission in Bahrain following an attack, according to official statements. Five members of the UAE Ministry of Defence were also reported injured in that incident.

Authorities said that since February 28, ongoing attacks have resulted in the deaths of military personnel and civilians of multiple nationalities, including Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, and Palestinian citizens, while injuries have been reported among residents from several countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Officials continue to monitor the situation as regional security concerns remain high.
