DUBAI, Apr 13: Traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz has reportedly come to a complete standstill following an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump that the United States would impose a naval blockade on the key maritime route, according to shipping intelligence reports.
Lloyd’s List Intelligence said that “all traffic” through the strait stopped after the announcement, with at least two vessels that were previously heading out of the waterway reportedly turning back. The report noted that shipping had been operating at reduced levels in recent days following a temporary pause in hostilities between the United States and Iran.
The latest disruption comes after a brief recovery in vessel movement, as some shipping activity had resumed following a ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran. However, the situation appears to have reversed following renewed tensions and the blockade declaration.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes, remains highly sensitive to geopolitical developments, with any disruption having immediate implications for global oil and trade flows.
