KUWAIT CITY, Nov 6: Scottish Jayson Shaw emerged as champion in the Kuwait Open 9-ball Championship with a score of 13/10 over Taiwanese Chang Jun Lin in the final game at Ardiya Youth Center.

Shaw won a gold medal with $50,000 prize; while Chang, who came in second place, received a silver medal and $25,000 cash prize.

The championship lasted for 12 days with 370 participants representing different countries including 80 Kuwaitis.  The total cash prize given out during the championship amounted to $275,000.

World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) President Ian Anderson, an Australian, attended the event.

Speaking at the event, Kuwait Olympic Committee Board member Jasem Al-Ya’aqoub said that the success of the organizing committee, headed by Muhammad Al-Khashawi, in bringing together international champions including 60 top players led to such a wonderful level of the competition.

He stressed that Kuwait Olympic Committee, headed by Sheikh Fahd Jaber Al-Ali, is keen on supporting all Kuwaiti athletes.

Meanwhile, Director of Sports for All Department at the Public Authority for Sports Hamed Al-Hezaim pointed out the authority did everything to ensure the success of the championship that is considered among the most important competitions in the world.
