KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: The recent widespread rainfall across the country has coincided with a noticeable decline in reckless driving, particularly the loud and dangerous “drifting” and stunts that citizens and residents were previously accustomed to hearing, especially at night and during rainy weather. This positive shift, marked by the disappearance of illegal vehicle stunts, reckless driving, and related gatherings, is directly attributed to the new traffic law that came into effect in April. The law has significantly improved driver compliance, contributing to a calmer and more disciplined traffic environment, especially during wet conditions. Official statistics from the General Traffic Department confirm the effectiveness of the law.
According to security sources, in the three months preceding the implementation of the law, 321 reckless driving violations were recorded. This figure dropped by more than 65 percent, declining to just 112 violations in the three months following the law’s implementation in April, May, and June. In a clear demonstration of firm enforcement, the Ministry of Interior impounded two vehicles belonging to reckless drivers. This strict approach, along with heightened monitoring and tougher measures, was carried out under the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, contributing to the noticeable improvement in driving behavior. The rigorous enforcement of the new law, combined with an increased security presence and effective traffic control, has successfully deterred reckless drivers who posed a danger to themselves and others. This marks the beginning of a new phase in road safety, defined by greater respect for traffic regulations. Traffic campaigns remain ongoing to ensure sustained compliance and to prevent any return to previous dangerous behaviors, particularly during rainy conditions. As a result, roads throughout the country have become noticeably calmer and more peaceful during recent rainfall.
