KUWAIT CITY, March 28: The Labor Department directors have submitted a proposal to the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) to increase the fee for renewing the work permit of expatriates, who are above 60 years old with high school diploma and below, to KD 100 and double the amount annually, reports Al-Qabas daily. This will prevent the renewal of work permits for this category as the fee will double annually.

The option then is to transfer to family visa or selfsponsorship as per the Residency Law. Since January, hundreds of expatriates above 60 years old have transferred their visas to articles 22 (family or dependent visa) and 24 (self-sponsorship). Meanwhile, PAM denied the audio clip, which went viral on social media, stating there are exceptions such as those who were born in Kuwait, have been residing in the country for more than 25 years and are engaged in certain professions.
