Jahra Municipality embarks on cleanliness campaign
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: According to sources from the Ministry of Public Works, many roads in different governorates and areas are in need of urgent maintenance in general. The ministry has developed a plan to address these streets and roads, and will start implementing it if the necessary budget is obtained from the Ministry of Finance, reports Aljarida daily. In a press statement, they explained that some examples of these roads are the internal and main roads in Hawally area, which are in need of urgent maintenance, especially since the last maintenance was done in 2006 for some parts of Hawally area.
The roads in Sabah Al-Salem area, which are in Mubarak Al- Kabeer Governorate, are good, as asphalt maintenance was carried out for all the internal and main roads in the area as part of the works of the current contract in the governorate. The sources said, “There is no maintenance contract for Mahboula area in the Ahmadi Governorate at present, despite the weak infrastructure and the need for restoration and asphalting of the main and internal roads in the area. The area is included in the five-year plan for the maintenance engineering sector, and the plan will be implemented when the necessary budget is available”. Regarding the implementation of entrances and exits to Mahboula area that was studied by the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport (PART) and the authorities concerned with the problem of traffic congestion, PART explained that the entrances and exits to the area will be implemented within the works of the consultative agreement No. 269 for improving the Fahaheel Expressway, which has been concluded with a global consulting office with the cooperation of a local office.
Capacity
Currently, the plan is being designed to raise the road capacity to make it a road that bears international standard specifications with the development of existing intersections that will help them to become multi-level intersections to serve current and future traffic. In other news, the Kuwait Municipality is waiting for the approval from the ministries of Electricity. Water and Renewable Energy and Public Works to give building permits to owners of plots of land in South Khaitan (Blocks 3-4), after it gets a nod from the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport, reports Al-Rai daily. Informed sources told the daily, the Municipality had earlier informed the three concerned parties to obtain approvals before granting the plot owners building permits in South Khaitan plots. The sources added the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Rana Al-Faris is keen to speed up the issue granting building permits in southern Khaitan, especially after the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport completes the infrastructure works for the region. She pointed out that the Ministry of Electricity will soon start awarding tenders for the construction of power substations, which will coincide with the owners of starting construction work.
Meanwhile the Public Relations Department of the Kuwait Municipality announced the General Cleanliness and Road Works Department affiliated to the Jahra Municipality branch conducted a field tour in the governorate’s areas to remove everything that obstructs the road and distorts the public view within the framework to improve the level of cleanliness, reports Al-Rai daily. Director of the Department of Public Hygiene and Road Works in Jahra Governorate, Fahad Al-Qarifa, said the tours aim to raise the level of hygiene in all areas of the governorate, noting that the supervisors of the centers periodically follow up the cleaning work in all areas of the governorate by removing everything that obstructs the road and distorts the view He explained during the field tour the supervisory team issued citations to seven street vendor violations and lifted 11 abandoned and/ or scrap cars and took them to the Municipality garage.
