LONDON, Sept. 9: Several merchant vessels in the northern Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman were subjected to what the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) described as “disabling fire” amid ongoing military activity in the region.

UKMTO said Wednesday it had received a report concerning several commercial vessels, citing military authorities as the source of the information.

The maritime security agency did not identify the vessels involved or disclose who was responsible for the reported fire.

“UKMTO is unable to confirm if any casualties or environmental impact has occurred at this time,” it said, adding that authorities were aware of the incidents and investigations were continuing.

The advisory was issued Wednesday following an initial report received on Tuesday.

UKMTO urged mariners operating in the affected areas to remain alert to the changing security situation and follow the latest maritime security information and guidance.
