WASHINGTON, May 22: Roger Wicker, a Republican Senator has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to abandon diplomatic negotiations with Iran and instead allow American forces to “finish the job,” including what he described as the destruction of Iran’s military capabilities and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on social media platform X, Wicker said the current moment would define Trump’s legacy, arguing that pursuing a diplomatic agreement with Tehran would be ineffective and would project weakness. He claimed that U.S. armed forces should be permitted to complete their objectives against Iran’s conventional military infrastructure and restore freedom of navigation through the strategically vital waterway.
Wicker further warned that continued negotiations with Iran’s leadership risk undermining U.S. credibility, insisting that decisive military action was necessary. His remarks come amid heightened political debate in Washington over the future of U.S. policy toward Iran, particularly regarding nuclear talks and tensions in the Gulf region.
