LOS ANGELES, Jan 31, (Agencies): Selma Blair provides a candid update on her health post-remission from multiple sclerosis (MS), acknowledging the ongoing challenges she faces. In a heartfelt Instagram video on Monday, the 51-year-old actress, seated in bed with a microphone, opened up about the persistent pain she experiences due to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a group of inherited disorders affecting connective tissues.
Despite being in remission and scheduled for an upcoming MRI and bloodwork, Blair expressed that the effects of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome have taken a toll on her body. The syndrome primarily impacts the skin, joints, and blood vessel walls, leading to stiffness and chronic pain.
"I hurt all the time. I say that for you people that hurt also," Blair shared, acknowledging the universal struggle with pain, especially as people age. While suggesting stretching as a remedy for muscle discomfort, she revealed that, unfortunately, it's not an option for her due to the restrictions imposed by Ehlers-Danlos.
Blair explained, "So, the Ehlers-Danlos will make me really, really, really stiff." She emphasized that while she deals with injuries, they are not life-threatening, but rather contribute to the chronic nature of her condition.
Despite the constant fatigue and stiffness, Blair maintains a positive outlook, stating, "There's no complaining. But I don't know if I'll ever have the coordination or balance or stamina that I want to. Still lucky. Still grateful. Still okay."
Diagnosed with MS in 2018, Blair achieved remission in 2021, but her recent update sheds light on the ongoing battles she faces with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and the daily physical challenges that accompany it.
