Security campaigns net 170 people in 48 hrs – ‘Municipality team issues 186 citations, seizes 112 vehicles

KUWAIT CITY, April 23: Securitymen carried out extensive security campaigns in all six governorates in the last 48 hours during which they arrested 170 individuals who are wanted for various offences such as violation of residency and labor laws and for involvement in drug, civil and criminal cases. They also issued 111 traffic citations and seized three vehicles. The campaigns were launched based on directives from Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah. In fact, Major General Al-Tarrah was physically present to lead the operation.

The arrested people included 112 wanted criminals, 5 individuals wanted for civil cases including a Kuwaiti citizen, 21 violators of residency and labor laws, 45 people who did not hold civil ID cards, 19 marginal workers and 16 street hawkers. Officers issued 11 citations against individuals who parked their vehicles in parking spaces allotted for the disabled and 100 citations against others for various traffic offences.

Hawally securitymen arrested six individuals who are wanted for different cases including an Asian expatriate who entered the country illegally, a Kuwaiti citizen wanted for financial offence worth KD 48,000 and another Kuwaiti citizen in possession of drugs. Ahmadi securitymen arrested ten violators of residency and labor laws and seized a vehicle. They also apprehended three Asian expatriates for stealing copper from a restricted area. In Farwaniya Governorate, securitymen arrested 16 individuals who are involved in different cases. In Mubarak Al-Kabeer, securitymen arrested 20 wanted individuals. Officers from the Special Operations Unit arrested three Kuwaiti citizens in possession of drugs. All arrested individuals were referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action against them.

186 citations issued: A team of officials from the Public Hygiene and Road Usage Department of Farwaniya Municipality issued 186 citations and 147 warnings for various types of violations, and lifted 112 abandoned vehicles from several locations within Farwaniya Governorate in the month of March. According to statistical data released by the Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality, the violations for which citations and warnings were issued included 90 cases of street hawking, 70 cases of non-adherence to public hygiene regulations, 22 cases of misuse of roads and four violations of Law no 9/1987 on public hygiene. Road usage monitoring inspectors also succeeded in placing stickers on 628 abandoned vehicles and they lifted 112 others following the expiry of the warning deadline. The Public Relations Department urged citizens and expatriates to call the hotline number 139 anytime during weekdays and weekends to report any complaints and present enquiries.

Grocery assaulted: The Farwaniya police have arrested two people — a bedoun and a Syrian — for breaking into a grocery and stealing money after beating the grocer with sharp objects, reports Al-Shahed daily. The salesman has been referred to a hospital with shoulder and hand injuries. The arrest came after intensive investigations by police.

Eve-teaser to be deported: The Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs, Major-General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah has ordered the arrest of an Asian for harassing women in a public garden in Surrah, reports Al-Anba daily. A security source said the Indian who is believed to be in his 40s was put under surveillance after several women complained to the police and was caught in the act. During interrogation the Indian admitted to the charge. He will be deported from the country.
