KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: Kuwait is expected to experience scattered rain starting Thursday and continuing until next Sunday, with periods of moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds, the Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.
Acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dharar Al-Ali told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the country will be affected starting Thursday by a gradually deepening surface low-pressure system, coinciding with a very cold upper-level low-pressure system, according to weather maps and numerical models.
The system will lead to increased low- and mid-level cloud cover, interspersed with cumulonimbus clouds, bringing scattered light rain on Thursday, moderate rain on Friday, and occasional thunderstorms on Saturday evening and Sunday, Al-Ali said.
He added that the chance of rain is expected to gradually decrease starting Sunday afternoon.
Winds will be light to moderate southeasterly, ranging between 12 and 38 kilometers per hour, occasionally becoming active on Saturday and reaching speeds of 15 to 50 kilometers per hour, which may cause sea waves to rise to more than six feet.
Al-Ali said weather conditions will become unstable starting at dawn on Sunday, with winds shifting to moderate to brisk northwesterly winds, occasionally strong, reaching speeds of 25 to 65 kilometers per hour. These winds are expected to stir up dust throughout the day, reduce horizontal visibility and raise sea waves to more than seven feet.
He noted that maximum temperatures from Thursday through next Sunday are forecast to range between 15 and 21 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to range between 5 and 11 degrees Celsius.
