MANILA, July 8: A Saudia Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and a Philippine Airlines Airbus A320 were involved in a ground collision at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport, forcing the cancellation of a scheduled flight to Jeddah.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred on the airport apron in the past few hours. The Saudia aircraft, registered HZ-AR12, sustained damage and remains grounded in Manila pending inspection and investigation.
The collision led to the cancellation of Saudia flight SV871 bound for Jeddah. There were no immediate reports of injuries, and authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the incident.
Images circulating on social media showed the two aircraft in contact on the airport ramp, with visible damage to at least one of the planes.
The incident has renewed criticism of operations at Manila Airport, where aviation observers have previously raised concerns over congestion and apron safety, warning that operational risks could increase the likelihood of ground collisions.
Airport authorities and the airlines are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
