RIYADH, Nov 8: Today marks the commencement of the highly anticipated second edition of the Saudi Women’s First Division League 2023/24. This league is the gateway for three clubs to qualify for the Premier League.

The new edition features the participation of 26 clubs hailing from diverse regions of Saudi Arabia, spanning both the government and private sectors. These teams are divided into five groups located in Riyadh, Jeddah, Qatif, Medina, and Taif. The Saudi Football Federation has allocated significant financial rewards for the top performers, with the first-place team receiving 500,000 Saudi riyals, the second-place team securing 350,000 Saudi riyals, and the third-place team earning 300,000 Saudi riyals.

Riyadh Club emerged victorious in the previous 2022/2023 season, defeating Al-Muttahed Club, also known as “Al-Qadisiyah Now,” in a penalty shootout, securing their passage to the Premier League.
In this new edition, the spotlight shines on Al-Bairaq Club, formerly known as “Sama,” which was relegated from the Premier League in the previous season. They kickstart their journey by facing Al-Shoula.

Al-Bairaq aspire to make a triumphant return to the top tier of women’s football as they compete in the first group matches in Riyadh, locking horns with Al-Himma, Golden Eagles, Al-Shoula, Al-Orouba, and Al-Watani clubs. The second group will host its competitions in the Eastern Province, while Madina will be the venue for the third group’s contests. The fourth group will take place at the King Fahad Sports City in Taif.
